Masterton Retreat, Sept 6-9, 2024

By Manny & Ruth Ornejas

MASTERTON- GCI members in Masterton held a 3-day retreat at the Copthorne Hotel in Wairarapa on September 6-9, with visiting former National Director Dr. Eugenio Guzon focusing on the “5 Voices” and exploring how this can help teams, individuals and even families.

The attendees included the pastoral team and emerging leaders, which made the retreat a very encouraging one, especially to those who were unclear of their voices.

The “5 Voices” focuses on each individual, identifying who you are and how you can better communicate with other people in your team and even in your workplace.

The retreat also focused on how emerging leaders are being given the opportunity to participate and gave insights on how they can be a big help in ministry wherever they go. A presentation on the mission to be a healthy church (John 15:4) was given online by Pastor Rex de la Pena, reminding us that we must abide in Christ, for without Him we can do nothing. Some members travelled all the way from Fielding, including Aaron Galit, with his friends Maui and Athenis.  Aaron also plans to have Bible studies in his area. Imelda and Bob Longhurst travelled from Hamilton.

On day 3 Pastor Dennis ended the retreat with a sermon titled “Walk with Integrity”. He encouraged us to be a missional church always looking out for our neighbours and making them feel at home with us.

Dr. Guzon will now visit some members in Christchurch, including George and Gel Ornejas. George was a part of GCI Masterton when he lived in Masterton.  When he went home to the Philippines in 2020 he was able to help with the church plant in GCI Naujan Oriental Mindoro, in the southern part of the Philippines, where 11 young members were baptised.

Moving forward, Pastor Manny Ornejas appreciates the help of GCI NZ and GCI Masterton for this move as we see greater work ahead that God has given to migrant Filipinos living in New Zealand.
